Can’t Afford a Mississippi Ignition Interlock?

affording a Mississippi ignition interlockA DUI doesn’t just go away quietly, no matter where you live or the circumstances surrounding your intoxicated drive home. Fortunately, there are options after being arrested for (or convicted of) a DUI, like a Mississippi ignition interlock device. That option is pretty important for anyone who relies on their own transportation in order to keep working. In fact, an interlock may mean the difference between keeping your job or suddenly relying on public transportation and/or friends to get you to your next job interview.

For a first-time DUI in Mississippi, you may be ordered to serve a 90-day license suspension, or have a 90-day ignition interlock requirement after serving 30 days of a license suspension. Three months without your own transportation can seem like 30 years, especially when you have work, school or medical obligations. The Mississippi ignition interlock is an important tool to get you back on the road and get your life back together.

Affording a Mississippi ignition interlock device can be difficult, but with the state’s new all-offender policy, you have options. There is financial assistance available for those who qualify. Most of the time, the cost of an ignition interlock is only a few dollars each day… much less than a few beers at a bar.

Mississippi is one of the majority of U.S. states that requires an ignition interlock device for all DUI offenses. The devices are proven to reduce repeat DUI offenses by 60 – 90 percent, and as more states have all-offender interlock policies, the success of interlock programs continue to prove their worth. None of that is a good alternative to using your own common sense if you know you’ll be drinking. It’s a lot easier to rely on public transportation or your friends before you make a DUI mistake rather than in the aftermath of your intoxicated choice to drive yourself home.
