What Do You Look Like as an Alcoholic?

You are here: Home / General Information / What Do You Look Like as an Alcoholic?
November 28, 2014 by Editorial Staff

alcoholicMost of us have known someone with a drinking problem at some point in our lives.  A lack of control when it comes to drinking can usher in relationship problems, job issues, legal woes, and a host of other uncomfortable situations. You may even have an ignition interlock device in your car, leading to anxiety when it comes to having anyone ride in your vehicle. It can be embarrassing to have such obvious evidence that you have struggled with drinking responsibly. Another possible embarrassing result of drinking too much is the toll it takes on your looks.

There are now apps and online tools that can help you figure out how heavy drinking can affect your looks over time. We live in a society that places a lot of emphasis on physical attraction. While all of us aren’t interested in catering to the artificial perfection ads and movies seem to constantly push us toward, we all have something about our bodies that we care about. And, when we go out to a bar or club, it’s always nice to be appreciated for looking good. However, heavy drinking can make that less likely. As an alcoholic, the more you drink, the more your body breaks down.

Drinking alcohol dehydrates your body, so, unless you drink a lot of water along with drinking a lot of alcohol, you are starving your cells of a vital part of their composition. The human body is ideally around 70% water. That means your body needs to be almost three-quarters water to be at optimal health. Heavy drinking dehydrates you, which is going to set you up for a face that looks old before its time.

Heavy drinking is also likely to bloat you, leaving you dehydrated and bloated. Plus, you’ll have a bunch of broken capillaries, leaving your face swollen and discolored. That’s going to get you attention when you go out, but probably not the kind you want. Even if you never get behind the wheel drunk, cutting back on the drinking will benefit you when you look in the mirror. It’s like a gift you give yourself to drink in moderation. Being an alcoholic is never trendy, and the risks you take when drinking too much are as irreversible as the damage that can be read on your face.
