Five Benefits of a Virginia Ignition Interlock

What does your Virginia ignition interlock do for you?Nobody really wants a car breathalyzer or ignition interlock device, just like nobody really ever wants to drink and drive. In Virginia, when you make a choice to get behind the wheel of your car after you’ve been drinking, you are essentially choosing to install an ignition interlock. But, that’s not really a bad thing, especially considering all of the benefits ahead of you on your road to sobriety:

Your Virginia ignition interlock:

  • Teaches you healthy habits with alcohol. You will grow to understand that even a couple of drinks are too many to be a safe driver.
  • Gives you the ability to stay employed. Without it, your transportation options could cause you to be late or miss days at the office.
  • Saves money. Since you’re not drinking like you once were, and you’re able to keep your paychecks coming, you have a bigger balance in your bank account.
  • Gives you a second chance after a DUI. In the time before Virginia’s ignition interlock program, offenders had less ability to fully resume a normal life. Today, that has changed.
  • Keeps others safe on the roads. With an ignition interlock on your car, you cannot drink and drive. You are not a danger to yourself or someone else.

It can be hard to see the silver linings on cloudy days, but with an ignition interlock, you are creating a new, better life for yourself and your family or loved ones. Mistakes happen, and sometimes it takes a daily reminder of the dangers we’ve risked in order to get our lives together. Virginia’s ignition interlock law makes sure that you’re not stuck at home after a DUI, and that you can keep your job while everyone else remains safe around you. Driving sober is a choice, just like driving drunk, and with your ignition interlock, that choice gets a lot clearer, no matter how much you’ve had to drink.
