Reducing Houston DWI Driving, One App at a Time

May 29, 2017 by Editorial Staff

houston dwi device preventionHouston DWI numbers are about to get a huge reduction. At least, they could if smartphones are given the driver’s seat when people are drinking. Technology has taken the lead in the fight against drunk driving, in Houston and across the country. Some of the uses aren’t too shocking, while others are so common sense, we should all be ashamed for not using them sooner.

Houston DWI prevention technology includes:

  • Uber, Lyft and other rideshare services. When it comes to finding a safe ride home after drinking, there is nothing better than the assurance of a stranger handling it all for you. Seriously. Rideshare services at the drop of an app are quickly being credited with Houston DWI and all other drunk driving numbers reductions.
  • Alcohol home delivery. It may seem like a joke, but what better way to get people to stay off the roads when they’re drinking than to just bring the alcohol to their house? Another app-based service is keeping drunk drivers off the roads, and in their own homes, where they’re safe and sound (and so are we).
  • Ignition interlock devices. When all else fails, a convicted Houston DWI driver has access to ignition interlocks if they intend to drive again. The devices prevent any further intoxicated mistakes on the roads.

Given the enormous amount of brainpower that is handled by smartphones now (shopping lists, phone number storage, etc.), it only makes sense to rely on technology to keep us safe when our brains have had a little too much.  Technology doesn’t care about excuses, technology doesn’t even care that you think you’re okay to drive. Technology has a job to do and in the case of Houston DWI drivers, that job is to ensure the roads are safe for everyone.
